We are searching for a dynamic Technical Writer to join our Product Development team. You will bring innovation, creativity and enthusiasm for new technologies to our Metaphor products. The ideal candidate enjoys working closely with team members from many disciplines, finding innovative ways to present concepts to a wide variety of audiences and continually striving to improve the quality of our product documentation.

Duties

  • Write, edit, manage and publish documentation, including user guides, online help, release notes, reference manuals, APIs, and technical notes for USAN products
  • Attend product planning and development meetings
  • Develop documentation plans and documentation outlines
  • Work independently and coordinate with software developers, project managers, QA engineers, and other team members to create and update product documentation
  • Research and understand the technical components of USAN’s products in order to produce technical documentation for the appropriate audience
  • Participate with the Product Development team in the planning, specification, and testing phases of the product life cycles
  • Manage updates and revisions of technical documentation to ensure accuracy as products are enhanced
  • Use Microsoft Visio, Word, and Help+Manual to author documentation
  • Bring fresh, innovative ideas for providing product documentation to our customers
  • Participate in task analysis and synthesize complex technical information

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Journalism, English or a technical discipline
  • A minimum of three years of experience writing technical documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Visio
  • Demonstrated aptitude for reviewing product specs, interviewing subject matter experts, and using software products
  • Demonstrated experience delivering content through a variety of methods, including onscreen text, context-sensitive help, multimedia tutorials and technical guides
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience writing technical documentation
  • Experience in documentation of complex systems, especially three-tiered architecture and development frameworks
  • Knowledge of Help+Manual v. 7
  • Experience working with distributed teams
  • Ability to recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements
  • Degree or certificate in Technical Writing
  • Proficient in a variety of editing tools and source formats
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
